I too personally feel that a console is a dried piece of shit with an icing.....but the companies are putting in a lot of their time and money in the "icing" thing... p.s:-You can buy a compatible keyboard and mouse for ps3 too :D you said it!!

That being said, I do not believe updates will "cripple" software compatibility. Minor issues can show up but patches would fix that. Consoles get updated too nowadays and a firmware update is <em>potentially</em> more dangerous as it can wreck hardware. OS updates generally would not. As far as "blaming" something on battery life etc, that would effectively kill the platform right there. The whole point would be for Apple to sincerely support developers. Apple as a company makes drastic changes to its OS at it's own whims and fancies, thus crippling a lot of work that's done for the platform. If it was a purely gaming platform, they would never do anything drastic, but since it's secondary there's no guarantee that they'll just ban all gaming products blaming it on battery life and what not!
