Face palm moment. I could have sworn I mentioned the Myth series in the post. The games you mentioned did do away with base building but the player still had some semblance of an army. I'm talking about 30 units or so (if memory serves). The custom gear tweaking in ground control in particular was excellent. I think I spent more time designing vehicles than actually playing the game. That said, Ground Control never really sought to sell itself as a pure RTS in any event, at least, thats the way I remember it. Sierra always harped about the "blend" of action and strategy. Relic on the other hand pushed DOW2 as an RTS. Thats what pissed off a lot of people I think.

(Wow, that really brought back some memories!)

By no means is DoW 2 the first game to do this. Games like Myth II : Soulblighter and Ground Control eschewed base-building and resource gathering to focus purely on tactical combat over ten years ago.

CoH was like a breath of fresh air in a genre that was getting increasingly stale. Unfortunately THQ does not have a license program for this part of the world. This means we cant use it at The Bunker. Not that it would be that popular imo. Most kids here still love the old school titles. AoE is still very popular.

Fundamentally RTS titles are defined with 2 elements. The need to have tactics (mechanics/battle maneuver) and strategy (overall larger goal). I think this is a fresh take on both of them. I haven't played the game yet, but I thought company of heroes was a very well done game. It had a good idea and a solid dose of realism backing it up.

When does the bunker have this to test it out ?
